Something to remember
A patient with TVD came to our clinic lately. Usually, patients with TVD are treated by CABG, but the patient preferred PCI since his friend could have received non-CAGB treatment at the different hospital. We gave him regular treatment and planned to give him the rest of treatment sometime later. The patient told me that the medicine he has been prescribed by another hospital was running out, so we wrote a letter to the hospital. However, the patient came back to our clinic saying the hospital told him they could not give him the same medicine any longer after receiving the letter from us. Of course, we prescribed him the medicine.
Initially, the patient brought us a referral from the hospital so we decided to communicate with letters.
For this reason, I feel very disappointed by what the patient experienced. The hospital immaturely treated the patient like this even though patients are supposed to be treated as first priority. I even feel angry towards the hospital.
I also tell the patients sometimes that I cannot treat you if you don’t listen what I say since I cannot take any responsibility for such patients. This time, the patient was never told so. The hospital should have told so if they cannot treat the patient. The patient was in trouble and visited the hospital because he needed the medicine. What do you think about the hospital refusing the patient with their own reasons?
That is why doctors are often considered immature. We must think with patient’s mind. We must be the hospital which is able to remind or warn our doctors when they treat patients like this story. I’ve learned a lot.
